The city of Sharm El-Sheikh has prepared to host the Climate Change Conference “COP-27” scheduled to start in November 2022, which is an annual summit attended by presidents and leaders of about 197 countries and 50,000 people to discuss climate change and review what these countries, and the world in general, are doing to confront the problems of change. climate and how to address it.

Egypt reviewed its experience in transforming the city of Sharm El-Sheikh into a green, environmentally friendly city during this conference, as part of the Egyptian state’s efforts to confront the effects of climate change. By switching to electric transportation, obtaining the green star for tourist resorts, spreading the culture of working with solar energy units within tourist resorts, and environmentally managing waste.

Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, said that establishing an international tourist walkway on the Peace Road in Sharm El-Sheikh will be a tourism boom in the city, especially since the idea of ​​designing the walkway relied on the distribution of elements with a vision stemming from studying the elements of the visual image. This is done by designing a distinctive visual sign that prepares the tourist to enter the walkway. This visual sign gives a symbolic meaning that expresses the visual identity of the city and the general character of the walkway, which is one of the most important aesthetic elements on the path to peace.

He added that the walkway is 6 kilometers long, starting from Sinai Casino to Delta Sharm Village, and the width of the walkway and entertainment elements is 25 square meters, and is divided into two parts, one of which is inside the villages and includes the fact that it passes through tourist areas and villages on both sides of the road. and the other part is located outside the villages, that is, on both sides of it are open lands. The average width of the main walkway is 10 to 15 meters to the right and left of Al Salam Road, and it includes a bicycle path, a pedestrian path, seating areas, agricultural beds, and some recreational elements suitable for the path.

The tourist promenade includes 82 shops, 66 sales kiosks, a bicycle path, a walkway with a width ranging from 5 to 10 meters, shade plant beds, and an entertainment area that includes a waterfall, an amphitheater, a panorama restaurant, a “Kids Area” children’s play area, and service shops.

He explained that 27 huge projects are being implemented in Sharm El-Sheikh, most of which have been 100% completed, and work is underway on other projects. Some committees continuously review these projects to follow up on implementation. and remove any problems that hinder work, in parallel with the development of tourist facilities, to verify the extent of implementation of the prescribed health requirements and the quality of the services provided.

He pointed out that the efficiency and speed of the Internet in tourist resorts had increased, and 46 hotel facilities in Sharm El-Sheikh had connected optical cables. The number of hotel establishments that obtained the green certificate reached 132 hotel establishments, and 40 diving centers obtained the green fin certificate, with care being taken to implement procedures and requirements for health safety and food safety standards to maintain the level of quality of services provided.
